Homebuyer/Owner Education

  • Assist aspiring homebuyers to understand the many complexities of purchasing a home. Assist current homeowners to retain and utilize the value of their home
  • Homebuyer/Owner Classes will be provided in a structured classroom setting
  • Homebuyer Classes will be for a minimum of eight (8) hours
  • Classes will address various topics (refinancing, loans, equity, insurance etc.)

    Counseling Services
  • Assist potential homebuyers/owners in solving problems related to the specific key barriers that are preventing them from purchasing and maintaining their home
  • Participants will be assisted in working with counselors in addressing such issues as credit, debt management, budgeting, down payment saving programs and strategies, understanding the purchase process, default prevention and asset management.
  • Any potential (current renter) homebuyers and existing homeowners are eligible to participate in the service
  • Existing homeowners may participate to find ways to preserve, protect and leverage their assets

    Program Orientation
    Prior to attending orientation, an application must be submitted and approved. The orientation provides information on program guidelines, income requirements, and the process required to obtain financial assistance. The Orientation also includes a Meet & Greet providing the opportunity for potential borrowers to meet realtors, lenders, & insurance agents. Program homebuyers/participants are required to attend.

    Homebuyer Education Class
    Provides information to aspiring homeowners on the issues of homeownership. Requirements include the 4 hour class and a 1-on-1 session with the Affordable Housing Staff to assess your personal financial situation (to be schedule with staff upon the completion of the Homebuyer Education Class). Program graduates are provided with a certificate of completion and classroom resource materials. Certificate is required for program participation. The Homebuyer Education Class is for potential clients ONLY; realtors and lenders are welcome to attend out Program Orientation.
